4 at Lahore. When Kadir Buksh became a rich
5 man, he was entertained by the Maharajah Runject;
6 Singh, having quarrelled with his own master. An
7 army was sent, at his suggestion, to the Bist Jalind-
8 hur, in order to seize it, and place Futteh Singh in
9 confinement. On receiving tidings of this i ntention,
10 Futteh Suigh Futteh Singh fled across the Sutlej, and concealed
11 Sutlej . himself in his village ofJagraon. When the Maha¬
12 rajah heard of the flight of Futteh Singh, he ex¬
13 pressed his astonishment, and sent Azeeaoodeen to
14 settle the Bist Jalindhur, Anund Ram, Bindaree.,
15 was employed in razing Futteh Singh’s forts, and
16 all the zemindars of the Doab paid tribute to the
17 Maharajah. Kadir Buksh remained with Runjeht
18 Singh at Umritsir; and died there, it is said, by a
19 violent death. Runjeet bestowed Tilwundee on
20 his son in jagheer.
21 Futteh Singh When Futteh Singh found that the British would
22 returns to the

32 Singh quarrel, succeeded him ; bu t he and hi:, brother Ummur
33 Singh quarrelled, and the latter went to represent
