5 The Doab formed between the Ravee and. Che-
6 nab is named Rechna; the letters forming the
7 word being six, the two first, taken from the Raved*
8 and the four last; from the Chenab, being the larger
9 river of the two. This Doab is. often written
10 Retchna , and various opinions have been offered as
11 to the origin of the word, some supposing the term
12 a Greek one. The name, like that of the other
13 Doahs, is simply derived from those of the rivers
14 of which it is composed.

16 Jelum, It bs the Hydaspes of the Ancients, and
17 like the others has various names, such as Chelum,
18 Jalum, Zaloomy, Jumad, and Belmt.
19 The Natives describe it as rising from the tank
20 Warnak, which is well defended by solid masonry,
21 i he tank is small, being in circumference twenty
22 feet It was built by Jehangeer in the year of the
23 Hijera 102-9, or a.d. 1605. The structure is said
24 to be a beautiful one.
25 From this tank the Jelum flows to Tslamahad,
26 near which it receives the water of a spring, or
27 fountain, named Miitun , and their union forms the
28 river, which is said to be here navigable. After
29 this it receives various tributary streams, and
30 reaches Seereenuggur, the capital of Cashmere ;
31 it flows through the city, where it is crossed by
