11 year of the reign of Beloii (Lodi). Nanuk’s father,
12 whose name was Kulloo of the Chuttree caste, was
13 a native of the village of Tilwundy, but Nanuk was
14 not horn there, though stated to lie so by both
15 Forster and Malcolm. Tilwundy is about sixty
16 miles from Lahore, [Foxier.] and twenty south of
17 Wuzeerabah, on the route from thence to Umritsir

19 Forster (1782) the village was known by the name

21 in the text is the correct one, since the calculation is made, with both the era
22 of the Hijera, and that of Bikermajeet. Malcolm most likely followed
23 Forster, who also assumed 1469 as the year of Nanuk’s birth. In Dow’s
24 history of Hindostan, Bikermajeet is said to have died in the eighty-ninth
25 year of the Christian era. The Mussulman authors of the History of the
26 Sikhs preserve invariably, a period of fifty-seven years between the Christ¬
27 ian, era and that of Bikermajeet, or Samvat,
