3 Knowing well that, the king would now send a
4 larger force against him, IIur Govind fled to the
5 bills ; on his way he spent some days at Ruheela,
6 on the right bank of the Beas, aml eventually
7 reached the mountains. He took up his abode at
8 Meerutpore, on the right bank of the Sutlej, five
9 miles from Anunpore.' Hur Govind remained there
10 'until the day of his death.
11 Hur Govind had three wives, by whom he had five
12 sons; whose names' were Goorooditteh, Teghbuha-
13 dur, SdorU't Singh, Anerat, and Uttulrao. The
14 eldest, Goorooditteh, died during the lifetime of
15 his lather, but left a son named Hurao, Hnr Go vind
16 had a great affection for this boy, and appointed
17 him his successor.
18 The rnother of Teghbuhadur was very much dis¬
19 pleased at this act of injustice, as she considered it,
20 and accused Hur Govind of acting unfairly; Hur
21 Govind told her to have patience, and assured her
22 that Teghbuhadur would yet sit on his throne.
23 “T give you in charge,” continued her husband,
24 “my arras for his use, and when he comes of age
25 deliver them to him.” After this the Gooroo
26 prayed, and departed this life in the year of the
27 Hijera, 1063, a,d. 1639, and Bit. 1696. Hur
28 Govind reigned thirty-one years, six months, and
29 two days: his death took place on the 10th of
30 March, His tomb is at Hcemtpoor.
31 When Hur Govind died, his grandson ascended
32 the throne, of the Gooroos, He behaved in an in¬
33 solent manner towards his uncle Tedibuhadur.
