4 iinonths, and nine days. He was buried at Delhi,
5 where his. tomb was erected.
6 When Hurkishen was on his dfeath-bed at Delhi,
7 lid was asked who should be his successor■; and
8 his reply was, “ After me, Baba Bukala shall he
9 Gooroo,”
10 Bukala is the name of a Tillage near Govind-
11 wal on the bank of the Beas j and when Hur
12 Govind was on his way to the hills, he left sevefal
13 of his followers at that place, where they remained
14 and flourished, Teghbuhadurs mother likewise
15 lived there,
16 nis|!!iti>s re* When Hurkishen’s death was made known, and
17 lessor! 8 1 ' c also his last words, all the Sodees of Bukala claimed
18 the Goorooship 1 Teghbuhadur concealed himself,
19 and never appeared in public. One of the fol¬
20 lowers of Hur Govind, named Mukhun Shah., re ¬
21 sided at this time in Delhi; which he left,‘and ar¬
22 rived at Govindvval with presents for the Gooroo.
23 All the Sodees collected around him, each claiming
24 the presents! Mukhun Shah inquired, what Hut-
25 kishen had said regarding his successor. They re-
26 M>,u>nn si.oh plied, that he had appointed Baba Bukala. Muk-
27 (U-chu. 3 me jj Un shah observed, “You do not understand his
28 meaning: the ruler of Bukala is Teghbuhadur t
29 He then carried his presents to the latter; but he,
30 being a fukeer, would not receive them, answering,
31 “ Give them to some one else who is the king. ’
32 Mukhun Shah, however, placed him on the throne
33 of the Gooroos; and all the arms left with his
34 mother by Hur Govind were delivered to her son.
