8 seeds are employed in the coagulntiou of milk, for making
9 cheese, the derivation of its name .is palpable. The plant which
10 yields these seeds grows on the west .-.ide of the Indus river.
11 The leaves, which are very bitter, are used as an infusion, by
12 the Lvanis in tevor. (OUtliuM ve.rvm, Linn, was formerly used
13 in Ihiifupv fur the coagulation of milk. Its flower* are yellow;
14 those* of Peniru l know not. The fruit of Physoila flevuosa is
15 accounted diuretic, and the root, and leaves powerfully narcotic ;
16 the latter are used in India as a poultice to inflamed tumors.

28 PionoroxTN—is said to be narcotic, increasing the animal
29 heat, and to act on the spina! marrow, producing tetanus and
30 opisthotonus. It is prepared from a decoction of Cocenlw
31 Indicm, by means of acetate of lend. The filtered liquid vs
32 cautiously evaporated to the consistency of an extract which is
33 then dissolved by alcohol, and evaporated to dryness. The
34 addition of a little water will dissolve the coloring matter, and
35 the silky needle-like crystals art formed. They arc extremely
36 bitter, soluble in water, alcohol, and ether.
37 Pimbebi gum mi —is an officinal gum at Lahore, from Timber,
38 a village at the foot of the mountains on the Punjab-road to
39 Cashmere. The natives call it goond e fotehl, It is used likt
40 gum-arabic, and has a similar appearance.
