4 paration unknown to the native doctors at Lahore. Sulphate of
5 Zinc lias been proposed as an antiseptic. The following
6 topical astringent remedy has been recommended in sprains,
7 contusions—with or without wounds—in fractures with tume¬
8 faction and effusion of blood, in erysipelas, incipient whitlow,
9 and various ulcers. Take alum and sulphate of iron, of each
10 500 parts ; sal ammoniac, sulphate of zinc and oxvde of copper,
11 of each 30 parts. The whole to-be fused by a gentle heat A
12 small piece is to. be dissolved in water, and a cloth dipped in the
13 solution to be placed over the part affected. My Jcrabs (native
14 surgeons) a' Lahore, to whom X gave this recipe, greatly eulo¬
15 gized its effects, and used it extensively in the affections above
16 named; also as collyriutri in ophthalmia,-as a clyster in diarrhoea,
17 and as injection in fistula lachrymale, otitis purulenta, gonorrhoea
18 secundaria, etc.

26 the head. Frictions with tincture of ginger has been recom¬
27 mended in myopia.
