13 ternal remedies.
14 For those who prefer compound
15 remedies, I add here two recipes
16 of my former practice, noted in my
17 manual as beneficial in dropsy.
18 The one consists of Calomel, Digit.
19 !>., Opium, extr. Sjuillce m., in equal
20 ports, prepared ns- two-grain pills.
21 The dose was o no to two pills every
22 morning and evening.
23 The second recipe consists in
24 essences of Jalapa, Oemm, TurjK-
25 Ihwn, 0, ammonium, fyotli. err., and
26 Myrobal. nig., mixed, they are eva¬
27 porated over a gentle fire to a soft
28 extract t to which is added, so much
29 . of a mixture ,if one part of calomel'
30 and two parts of rhubarb, sufficient
31 • to form it into amass, from which
32 tlirco-grnin pills are prepared. One
33 pill administered every morning and
34 evening, effected in eight days the
35 cure of an anasarca, by increasing
36 the discharge of mine. Like most
37 physicians still do, I also formerly
38 treated my patients after the prin¬
39 ciple: Vie unita fortior, believing
40 that it is necessary at once to attack
41 all the organs, for removing such
42 intractable (?) diseases.
