14 matic uil-like fluid, preserving animal Substances from putrefac¬
15 tion. Il is not kuown to the Eastern doctors.

17 stances, in drops, keeping it as an essence, in e, liquid

19 ♦Crocus satxvus — is, as before stated, monopolized by the
20 Cashniereiui government. The Hakims use Saffron in melancholy,
21 typhus fever, enlargement of the liver, and retention of urine.
22 It is said, in too large doses, it is noxious to 'the'nerves oi the
23 stomach, producing headache, and even stupidity. Lately, it has
24 been recommended, in combination with burned alum, in acute
25 Angina fauemm.

28 Croton Tioihjh— is knovu all over the Last; but, the
29 Croton Oil is restricted in its use to European doctors. The
30 Easterns prepare the seeds variously, pretending that by certain
31 preparations they are deprived of (heir poisonous qualities.
32 Thev also throw the germ away, and add as a corrective different
33 spices, especially cloves.
