5 The Rajah became annoyed, and wanted to get
6 away, but the Gooroo Goormukh Singh being pre-
7 sent observed, “ What is the use of words? Re-
8 move the Rajah as you have done Shere Singh
9 and his son, and then your path will be clear.” On
10 hearing this remark, Ajeet Singh, who was standing
11 behind the Rajah, shot him in the back, and he fell phyan finch
12 dead on the spot. Thus, in the course of a few Ajeet Singh.
13 hours, were the Malarajah, his son, and minister,
14 slaughtered by the Scindinwalas. This account of
15 the murder, and the manner in which it was con-
16 certed and executed, are on the authority of Said
17 Hussein Shah, the son of Said Ahmed Shah of autority of
18 Wittald, in whose possession are the very docu- scout
19 ments giving orders for the deaths of Shere Singh
20 and Dhyan Singh, under their own signatures !
21 It is difficult to conceive the ingratitude thus
22 manifested by the Scindinwalas towards their be-
23 nefactor, though we can easily believe that this
24 powerful family had still a wish to see the mother
25 of Nonehal Singh restored to power; and Lena
26 Singh, no doubt, looked forward to the post of
27 Wuzeer by getting rid of Dhyan Singh, It is said,
28 that Aject Singh before he murdered Shere Singh
29 repeated a Persian distich, to the effect that “his
30 affairs were in a disordered state and that he was
31 no longer able to pay his soldiers.” The report of
