6 the Indus, replete with the results of diligent

8 The Author and Compiler of the following
9 work does not profess to be alive to the inten-
10 tions of the British Government in respect to
11 the Punjaub, but he thinks the annexation of
12 that extensive and fertile territory to the pro-
13 vinces of British India so necessary and unavoid-
14 able a result (sooner or later) of its present state
15 of disruption, and of the warfare that has com-
16 menced, that he regards it as a duty to give his
17 countrymen the clearest notion of the Sikh state
18 it is in his power to convey.
