5 the Commissariat arrangements under Captains
6 Mainwaring and Williamson.
7 “ Owing to the judicious arrangements of Dr.
8 Murray, field surgeon, every wounded officer and
9 soldier was placed under cover, and provided for
10 soon after dark; and for the zeal displayed by
11 this able and persevering medical officer, and to
12 the several regimental surgeons, are the wounded
13 and our country deeply indebted. The whole of
14 the wounded were moved yesterday to Loodianah,
15 for the sake of accommodation and comforts which
16 could not be given them in the field.
17 “Tf not irregular, I beg you would lay before
18 the Commander-in-chief, for submission to the
19 Right Honourable the Governor-General, my
20 just sense of the valuable services of the political
21 officers associated with me :—Major Mackeson,
22 Captain J. D. Cunningham, and Lieutenant Lake.
23 For the assistance I have received from them in
24 their political capacity, I feel most grateful. On
25 the morning of the battle each offered to aid
26 me in his military capacity: frequently did I em-
27 ploy them to carry orders to the thickest of the
28 fight; and frequently did they gallantly accom-
29 pany charges of cavalry.
