4 SAKHEE SURWAR, in Afghanistan, a large village in the B.1.C. Ms. Doc.;
5 Derajat, thirty-nine miles west of the Indus, and thirty-six west aia eed
6 of Dera Ghazee Khan. It is often devoid of water, which has
7 to be brought from a spring in the mountains five miles distant.
8 It gives name to a celebrated pass on the route from Dera Ghazee
9 Khan to Kandahar. The pass commences four miles west of the
10 village, by a steep descent into a ravine, the bottom of which is
11 covered with loose stones. The road is commanded by the steep
12 heights on each side, and is little frequented on account of the
13 depredations of the Marree freebooters holding the neighbouring
14 hills. Sakhee Surwar is about twenty miles east of the great
