20 SATPUR, in Bultistan, or Little Tibet, a defile by which the
21 route from the elevated table-land of Deotsuh passes into the
22 valley of Iskardoh on its south side. At the southern entrance of
23 the pass is a lake nearly two miles long, and about a mile wide,
24 and on the eastern side of this the path runs along the base of a
25 steep mountain, so that an invading force would be exposed to
26 certain destruction by rocks rolled down the declivity. The
27 elevation of the pass is probably about 12,000 feet. Lat. 35°,

35 SEAH KHANA, in Afghanistan, a hamlet about sixty miles
36 north-east of Subzawur. Lat. 33° 30’, long. 63° 7’.
37 SEALKEE, in the Punjab, a village situate on the right bank
38 of the river Chenaub, fifteen miles south-west of the city of
39 Mooltan. Lat. 30° 6’, long. 71° 18’.
40 SEAOUL, in Afghanistan, a village situate where the Shutul
41 Pass over Hindoo Koosh opens into the valley of Punchshir. Lat.
42 35° ‘16, long. 69° 11’.
43 SEBEE, or SEWEE, in Afghanistan, a town situate near
44 the southern frontier, and fifteen miles east of the town of Dadur.
45 During the war in Afghanistan, Sebee was occupied by a British
46 garrison, which was withdrawn on the final evacuation of the
47 country in 1842. The intense heat of the climate is noted by a
48 native proverb—*‘ O God! when you had Sewee, why need you
49 have made hell?” Lat. 29° 30’, long. 67° 59’.
50 SEER, in Sinde, the mouth of the Goongroo or Pinyaree
51 branch of the Indus, which, in its lower part, is, in consequence
52 of the dam thrown across it at Maghribee, deserted by the
53 stream, except during the highest state of the inundation, This
54 estuary is navigable for boats of forty tons. The Seer mouth is
55 in lat. 23° 36’, long. 68° 13’.
