24 town. It is on the southern slope of the ridge, the crest of which
25 forms the Punch Pass. The name, signifying literally ‘‘ thanks-
26 town,” seems to have been intended to remind the traveller of
27 the gratitude* due to those who erected a caravanserai, situate
28 here for the accommodation of those toiling up the painful steep.
