5 1 Masson, Bal. Afg. LUGHMAN,! in Afghanistan, a district north of Jelalabad,
6 Panj. til, 201, and bounded on the north by Hindoo Koosh ; on the east, by the
7 river of Kama ; on the south, by the river of Kabool; and on the
8 west, by the river Alishang. It forms part of the province of
9 Jelalabad, and thither the ruthless Mahomed Akbar Khan con-
10 veyed the British prisoners reserved from the massacre at Khoord
11 Kabool. It is forty miles long, thirty miles broad, and, though
12 having a rugged surface, is fertile, well watered, and populous.
13 Its name is said to be correctly Lamghan ; acquired, according to
14 2 Memoirs, 142; Baber,? from its containing the tomb of Lam, or Lamech, the

16 Caucasus. called Lughmani, compounded principally of Persian and Push-
17 3 jour. As. Soc. too.2 The district yielded annually Rs. 113,000 under Dost
18 toe aiae Mahomed Khan. It lies between lat. 34° 25’—35°, long. 70°—
19 of the Laghmini 79° 40’,
20 Seen pec; | LUK BAWUN, in Kashmir, a village situate at the north-
21 Vine, Kashmir, western extremity of a long ridge of green hills, which, extend-
22 ing from the Snowy Panjal, gradually diminish in height and size,
23 till they terminate on the plain. Though now scarcely contain-
24 ing half a dozen houses, Luk Bawun was once a considerable
25 place. Here, are the ruins of a large bath and an extensive stone-

27 Vigne, Ghuznee, LUKA, in the Punjab, a town on the route from Ferozpoor
28 oe to Mooltan. It is situate in the Doab between the Ghara and
29 the Chinab. Lat. 29° 50’, long. 72° 20’.
30 E.LC. Ms. Doe, LUKH, in Beloochistan, a pass twenty miles west of
31 Belah, on the route from that town to Kedje. The word means a
32 Pass. Lat. 26°10’, long. 66° 9’.
33 Vigne, Ghuznee, LUKHOKI, in the Punjab, a small town in the Doab between
34 18. the Ghara and the Ravee, is situate about three miles from the
35 right or west bank of the former river, and on the route from
36 Ferozpoor to Mooltan. Lat. 30°, long. 72° 41’.
37 ELC, Ms. Doe, LUKHSUR, in Beloochistan, a village on the route from
38 Belah to Kedje, and forty miles west of the former town. Liat.

40 LUKKEE MOUNTAINS, in Sinde, are a considerable range
41 connected with the Hala, or Brahooic mountains of Beloochistan.
