24 town of the same name is situated a hundred and twenty miles
25 farther south, for an account of which see LukKEr, SOUTHERN.
26 LUKKEE, SOUTHERN, in Sinde, a town situate a short
27 distance south of Sehwan, close to the west bank of the Indus,
28 aud adjacent to the entrance of the Lukkee Pass. Its site is pic-
29 turesque, being near a Jake a mile wide, and several miles in
30 length, which appears to have been at one time a reach of. the
31 Indus. The Lukkee mountains, sloping down to the west of
32 the town, and a little to the north, abut oft that river, which
33 sweeps along their rocky base. Close to the town is a spring of
34 sulphureous water, which has a temperature of 102°, and flows
35 from the base of a calcareous precipice six hundred feet high.
36 Lat. 26° 14’, long. 68° 1’. This town must be distinguished
37 from another of the same name, situate a hundred and twenty
38 miles farther north, for an account of which see Luxxzg,
39 NortTaeErn.
40 LULLEEANA, in the Punjab, a village twenty-six miles
41 south of Lahore. Lat. 31°16’, long. 74° 24’.
42 LUNDYE, or, RIVER OF PANJKORA, in Afghanistan, one
43 of the principal tributaries of the Kabool river, rises on the
44 southern declivity of Hindoo Koosh, in the unexplored region
45 north of Panjkora. It flows from north-east to south-west, and
46 having received the Sewat river from the east, and some others of
47 less size, falls into the Kabool river between the Khyber moun-
48 tains and the Indus, and in lat. 34° 10’, long. 71° 47’.
49 LUNGUR, in North-western Afghanistan, a village thirty-
50 two miles south-east of the town of Siri Pool. Lat. 35° 50’,
51 long. 66° 13’.
52 LUR, in Western Afghanistan, a village with a deserted fort
53 on the route from Kandahar to Herat, and one hundred miles
54 north-west of the former place. It is well supplied with water
55 from subterraneous aqueducts, and there is considerable cultiva-
56 tion in the vicinity. Forage also can be obtained, the spontaneous
57 growth of shrubs and grasses. Lat. 32° 9’, long. 64° 11’.
58 LUREE, in the Punjab, a village situate on the left bank of
59 the Swan river, on the route from Attock to Julalpoor, and fifty
60 miles south-east of the former town. Lat. 33°30’, long, 73° 1’,
61 LURGE, in Afghanistan, a village forty-eight miles south-
62 west of Ghuznee. Lat. 33° 3’, long. 67° 44’.
