3 proper mark of vigilance and honesty in all these respects.
4 ‘Whenever there is a public market within the limits of the Hobly} the
5 Shaikdar is required to prepare regular prices current of the rates fetched
6 on each day and forward them to the Amildar. -He has also to secure
7 all unclaimed property foundin the villages, and send it up with full
8 particulars to the same authority.
9 What the Shaikdar is to the Shanbogues of his-Hobly, the Amildar in
10 his revenue capacity is to the Shaikdars of his talook.
11 Pog her are of Every dispute is referred to him, and whenever they
12 : . relate to Candayem lands, he has the power of decid-
13 ing them summarily, subject of course to an appeal to the Superintendent
14 and the Commissioner, whom also he addresses direct if any extraordinary
15 occurrence takes place in his talook.
16 The Amildar makes a tour of the Hoblys in the month of September
17 to ascertain the condition of the inhabitants and the prospects of the
18 season, and to see that the Shanbogues and Shaikdars are exerting them-
19 selves to bring the lands into cultivation.
20 After having satisfied himself on these points by personal observation,
21 and looked narrcwly into all the other arrangements entered into by his
22 subordinates, he settles the Koolwar Jummabundy village by village, °
23 and furnishes regular ten-day reports of the progress he has made. The
24 whole of his settlements are finished in November.
25 The Circar Buttayee lands of the Vysakha Fusul or May crop are
26 brought fully under cultivation in October and November, and by
27 February or March the Amildar is able to forward to the Superinten-
28 dent an estimate of its probable out-turn. The crops are thrashed and
29 heaped in May or June, and the Amildar has then to: see to the disposal
30 of the Circar share. Sometimes they are put up to public auction as
31 they stand upon the fields uncut, but generally after they..are reaped
32 and thrashed. Exactly the same course is pursued with the Karteekh or
33 November corp, which is planted in the Moongary or first rains and
34 reaped in October or November.
35 One important duty of the Amildar is to inspect the bunds of the
36 tanks ‘and the embankment of the water-courses in his Talook, and keep
37 the Superintendent constantly informed of their condition. Should they
38 require repairs, he forwards the necessary estimates to the Superintendent,
39 when they are of such a nature as not to ca]l for professional skill,
