2 missioner, and discharges the duty of Secretary in all branches of the
3 administration of Mysore, as well as of Coorg ; which, though a posses-
4 sion of the Company, has been placed under the Commissioner of Mysore,
5 but with its accounts kept entirely separate. 3. The four Superinten-
6 dents, (each with a Junior Assistant) ; who, in their several districts,
7 combine the power of Judge, Magistrate and Collector, 4. The Mili-
8 ‘tary Assistant ; who acts as an Inspector-to the regiments of Irregular
9 Horse and Infantry, which are officered entirely by Natives. 5. The
10 Second, Third and Fourth Assistants ; ‘who, _as a general rule, are em-
11 ployed by the Commissioner in his own office in those branches of the.
12 administration for which their talents appear best suited There are
13 besides generally two other Junior Assistants, one to carry on the minor
14 duties of the former ‘Resident, and the other to be employed (as one
15 now is in Coorg,) where the absence or sickness of any member of the
16 Commission may render his presence necessary.
