2 98. The Amildar is head of the Police in his Talook, and to assist
3 ; him.in Revenue and Magisterial business, he has

5 ; under his orders a Paishcar, a Killadar, Shaikdars,
6 Hoblydar, Duffadars and Candachar Peons; of these the Killadar and
7 Hoblydar only are exclusively Police-Officers.
8 99. In cases of personal wrong, or for petty offences, the Amildar has
9 power to confine an individual in the stocks for not more than twelve’
10 hours, or to confine a person, not in the stocks or in irons, for not more
11 than fourteen days.
12 100. Unless in cases of open violence, however, the Amildar i is not
13 authorized to interfere, except at the instance of a complainant,
14 101. The Amildar cannot keep any person in confinement pending
15 investigation for a longer period than seven days, without a reference to
16 the Superintendent.
17 102. The Shaikdars and Hoblydars have authority to confine, for not
18 more than twenty-four hours, any persons suspected of
19 henious crimes, such as murder, burglary, gang, torch,
20 or highway robberies: within that time they must
21 make such enquiries as will enable them to release the parties or report
22 to the Amildar for orders, and they are held strictly responsible for any
23 abuse of this ‘authority. Should a longer detention appear necessary,
24 they must either send the prisoner and witnesses to the Amildar, or
25 forward to that Officer a statement of the circumstances for his orders.
26 103, All offences or unusual occurrences are regularly reported by
27 the Tulwars and Toties of villages, as also by the
28 Killadars and Candachar Officers to the Amildar and
29 by him to the Superintendent.
30 104 Itis the peculiar duty of the Killadar and, under his orders, of the
31 subordinate Police Officers, to search for information, and
32 place it before the Punchayet in all Talook inquiries,
33 105. The Principal Sudder Moonsiffs have power to punish to the
