20 Indian Midland Bajlway. to collect salt revenue free of charge for this department on
21 Punjiéb Mines rock salt and Sambhar and Pachbadra salt sold
22 on the through-tratlic system. The arrangements whereby
23 this is effected have continued to work satisfactorily, and have
24 recently been made permanent by the Government of India.
25 In 1893-94 maunds 40,376 were sold under this system, and
26 in 1894-95 maunds 57,227, viz., Sambhar salt maunds 47,9794,
27 and Pachbadra salt maunds 9,2474. No Punjdéb Mines rock
28 salt was sold through this railway agency in the year under’
29 report; in fact this kind of salt is very little used anywhere
30 in the region through which the Indian Midland Railway
31 runs.

46 In the fixed charges there is a net decrease of Rs. 925,
47 which works out in the following way :—(1) Decrease in the pay
48 of the Personal Assistant of Rs. 2,774, owing to the absence
49 on furlough of the permanent incumbent for 7§ months, during
50 which period the acting officer drew less than the full pay of
51 the appointment, and to the appointment being held since
52 January 1895 by a Superintendent instead of as before by an
53 Assistant Commissioner ; (2) decrease of Rs. 582 in the pay of
54 clerks and servants and guards, owing to grant of leave to two
55 clerks and the transfer of aclerk of the lowest grade from the
56 Central Office to Pachbadra ; (3) decrease of Rs, 250, the pay for
