The realizations from the duty on Kohat salt are included
in excise duty, and the sum received by the British Government
as its share of the duty realized on Mandi salt is also included,
as usual, in excise duty.
Fees, cesses and fines comprise:—(1) all license fees realiz-
ed in the Internal Branch ; (2) the amount of Hakimi cess levied
on salt sold at the Sultanpur salt sources; and (3) all miscellane-
ous collections, including the charge made for filling, loading
and consigning through-tratlic salt at Warthganj, Sambhar and
Pachbadra.
The gross realizations of the year amount to Rs. 1,78,51,366,
being less than those of the previous year by Rs. 33,98,164,
and Jess than those of 1891-92 and 1890-91 by Rs. 16,81,238
and Rs. 14,533,173 respectively. The total charges of the year,
excluding treaty payments, come to Rs. 11,41,218, and are more
than those of the preceding year by Rs. 1,16,085, the increase
being caused by the nearly total-suspension of salt manufacture
at Sambhar in 18:12-93 owing to bad weather and the flooded
condition of the lake. The total charges are Jess than those of
1891-92 and 1890-91 by Rs. 45,033 and Rs. 44,271 respectively.
The net revenue of the Department is less than in 1892-93 by
Rs. 35,14,249 ; than in 1891-92 by lis. 16,836,205; and than in
1890-91 by Rs. 13,8%,992. The prominent cause of this great
falling off of revenue is the failure of manufacture at the Sam-
bhar Jake in 1892-93 owing to floods and the unfavourable
weather which prevailed in almost every month of the year,
and the consequent exhaustion of stucks. In July 1093 stocks
