23 The gross receipts are the largest, with the exception of ase rape ie
24 those of the year 1889-90, which have ever been realized in ception of those of
25 the Punjab Mines Division. They amount to Rs. 54,70,263, 1889-90.
26 and exceed those of the previous year by Rs. 7,26,335. The
27 gross receipts for 1889-90 above alluded to as the largest
28 ever yet realized, were Rs. 55,14,955. Excise duty yielded
29 Rs. 7,05,168; sale price Rs. 13,222; and miscellaneous, that
30 is, almost entirely, and in other words, through-traffic collec-
31 tions, Rs. 7,945 more than in 1894-95. There was a slight
32 falling off of Rs. 319 in fines, owing to the depdt contractors
33 working more satisfactorily, and of Rs. 479 in the sale proceeds
34 of unserviceable Government property, because in 1894-95
35 some dismantled and useless buildings on the Indus line were
36 disposed of. The net receipts show a surplus over those of
37 1894-95 of Rs. 7,19,366, and the incidence of charges on
38 receipts is 6-21 per cent. against 7°02 per cent. in the previous
39 year.
40 With regard to charges, the total of the fixed and con- "xe td contingent
41 tingent charges combined is Rs. 3,39,881 as against Rs. 3,832,912
42 in 1894.95, being an increase of Rs. 6,969. The fixed charges
43 were in 1895-96 Rs. 1,67,420, and in 1894-95 Rs. 1,66, 602, ee mA ee
44 being an increase of Rs, 818, concerning which the following “8” “PMs
45 are the details:—
46 Increases.—On account of the annual increment to the
47 salary of the Assistant Commissioner, Rs. 701. Pay of Clerks,
48 Rs, 950, owing to promotions and transfers, Pay of Inspectors,
49 Kotgashts and Jamadars, Rs. 179, owing to the posting of
50 certain Inspectors of higher grades to the division.
51 Decreases.—In exchange compensation allowance, Rs. 651,
52 owing to stoppage of payment of this allowance to the Assistant
53 Commissioner. Servants and guards, Rs, 47; and Superinten-
54 dents and Assistant Superintendents, Rs. 262, owing to officers
55 being on leave. Medical establishment, Rs, 52, owing to the
56 Same cause.
