3 Pathankot (maunds 6,646) aud Jullundar (maunds 15,580)
4 the markets which supply the area where Punjab Mines rock
5 salt and Mandi salt meet. The direct bookinys to Patiala
6 are maunds 38,185 more in 1895-96 than in 1894.95. Those
7 to Bahawalpur are maunds 3,216 less.
8 The bookings in 1895.96 show a satisfactory increase, as
9 compared with 1894-95, almost all over the Punjab; but in Rawal-
10 pind: (maunds 1,84,199 against maunds 94,198) they nearly
11 doubled. The increase, too, is very large in Multan (maunds
12 71,051 against maunds 49,700). The exceptions to which towns
13 bookings fell off are Khushab, Shahpur, Jhang,‘ Dehra Ismail
14 Khan and Bhakkar. In the North-West Provinces, Oudh
15 and Bengal the principal markets which import Punjab Mines
16 rock salt are Benares (maunds 20,747 in 1895-96, and maunds
17 25,307 in 1894-95) ; Fyzabad, including Ajodhya Ghat (maunds
18 38,475 in 1895-96, and maunds 43,358 in 1894-95); Jaunpur
19 ({maunds 36,629 in 1895-96, and maunds 87,022 in 1894-95);
20 Patna(maunds 53, 520 in 1895-96, and maunds 40,800 in 1894-95);
21 Cawnpore (maunds 15,960 in 1895-96 and maunds 14,715 in
22 1894-95), and Behta (maunds 15,660 in 1895-96, and maunds
23 18,900 in 1894-95). The total quantity of Punjab Mines rock
24 salt sent into the North-West Provinces, Oudh and Berigal,
25 during the past five years is :—

45 At Warcha the trade continues to fall off owing to the mine
46 and depdt being nine miles away from the nearest railway station
47 (Gunjial) on the North-Western Railway, which increases the
48 cost of the salt by an anna and a half to two annas a maund
49 by the time it reaches the railway, and prevents it. competing
50 evenly in markets supplied by rail with Khewra and Kalabagh
51 salt. On the other hand, the Kalabagh trade shows a good
52 increase. Qut of the total clearances the removals by road and
53 river were maunds 39,269 in 1893-94 ; maunds 31,904 in 1894-95,
54 and maunds 31,032 in 1895-96, while the removals by railway
55 amounted in 1893-94 to maunds 31,426 ; in 1894-95 to maunds
56 45,446, and in 1895-96, to maunds 62,127, showing that all the
