3 Rs, 14,616, the year was less favourable for the manufacture SAMBHAR,
4 of salt than its predecessor was, the outturn being in 1894-95"
5 maunds 70,35,016, and in 1895 96 maunds 51,29,304, a differ-
6 ence of maunds 19,05,712 ; (3) through traffic charges Rs. 9,745,
7 owing to a falling off in the quantity of through traffic
8 salt sold for the reasons shown elsewhere; (4) miscellaneous
9 Rs. 513, owing to purchase of furniture for office, &c., in 1894-95;
10 (5) refunds Rs. 18,049, owing to there having been no change
11 made in the price during the year under report. ,

28 The average annual production of salt during the above
29 period (which includes 1892-93, in which year, owing to rain
30 and bad .weather, only maunds 90,666 of salt were made) is
31 maunds 44,36,468 ; but if 1892-93 be excluded, the average is
32 maunds 49,19,335 ; so that for manufacturing purposes the year
33 1895-96 was above the average with an outturn of maunds
34 51,29,304. As regards sales, the average of the past 10 years
35 is maunds 39,26,458, and excluding 1893-94, when the price was
36 raised to eight annas a maund for fear of stocks becoming
37 exhausted, maunds 40,52,160; showing that the sales of 1895-96
38 (maunds 37,15,774) were a good deal less than the average
39 sales spread over a period of nine ordinary years,

43 1495-96 and the nine preceding years :—
