Decreases:—(1) manufacture of salt, Rs. 42,867, owing

(2) through-traffic charges, Rs. 8,589; the trade in through-

The duty-paid salt of the division decreased by maunds
2,46,378 as compared with the previous year, but was maunds
1,21,677 in excess of the same description of trade in 1892-93.
For obvious reasons no comparison is necessary with 1893-94,
during which period the price charged for Sambhar salt was
eight annasa maund. The decrease compared with 1894-95 is
equally due to the fact that for 24 months of that year also the
price of Sambhar salt remained at eight annas a maund. Itis
now, and was during the whole of 1895-96, four annas.
48. The through-traffic salt trade was less than in 1893-94
by maunds 4,76,613, and than in 1894-95 by maunds 1,68,837
but it was more than in 1892-93 by maunds 1,77,772. The
following abstract displays the relative quantities of this kind of
salt which were distributed over the different lines of railway
( 34 )
under the through traffic system during the past four years :—
1892-98, | 1893-94, | 1894-95. | 1895-96.
