and 22°62 inches in 1894-9& andit is very necessary for the
good of the tract that the next rainy season shou'd be more
favourable than that of 1895-96 has been.
54. In the year under report no change took place in the
strength of the establishment maintained in the Luni salt tract
for the protection of the salt revenue. It consists as before
of one Inspector, three Kotgashts, five Jamadars, and forty
peons,’ one Hospital Assistant, one Compounder, one Bhistie,
and one Sweeper.
The charges for establishment came to Rs. 6,445 compared
with Rs. 6,294 in the previous year, an increase of Rs. 151
owing to differences between the number of men going on leave
in the two years; and the contingent charges amounted to
Rs. 725 against 513 in 1894-95, owing. chiefly to increased
payments, as travelling allowance to petty officers and peons
transferred. Between the 5th and 25th of May maunds 5,236
of free salt were issued to 34,908 persons living in 38 villages
within the tract at therate of six seers per person. This
distribution. was personally conducted by the Inspector in charge.
Mr. Hollingberry, Superintendent from Pachcbadra, during the
year made a thorough examination of the tract, and the salt
deposiis along the Luni and Mithi rivers, and in the Runn, the
result being completely satisfactory.
55. The statement contained in this paragraph shows the
realizations, the fixed and contingent charges, and the net
revenue derived from the sale of salt at Falodi for the past four
years. No duty paid salt has been sold at Falodi for the past
three years, and, as soon as the stock of salt in hand is disposed
