SALT REVENUE DEPARTMENT FOR THE OFEJCIAL YEAR 1893-94.
: @ e ?
Manufacture charges increased from Rs. 52,336 to REVIEW BY SECTIONS
Rs. 1,36,748, or by Rs. 84,412. In 1892-93 only maunds SAMBHAR,
90,666 of, salt: were made and stored. In the year under
report the quantity amounted to maunds 44,51,154. The
reason why manufacture charges were so high in 1892-93
in comparison with the small quantity of salt produced in
that year’ is because expensive protective works had to be
erected to prevent the kyars and other works and the manu-
facturing plant from being destroyed by the floods. Under
travelling allowances, conveyance of tents and records, pur-
chase of tents, hot weather charges, service postage, telegrams,
stationery charges and rewards to smugglers, there are
small increases and decreases resulting altogether in a net
increase of Rs. 197. Petty construction and repairs of pub-
lic buildings and roads have decreased by Rs. 350. There is-
a decrease in through-traffic charges of Rs. 9,396 owing to
the greatly diminished sales of the year, and in miscellaneous
charges of Rs. 4,808 owing chiefly to the outlay in 1892-93
incurred in purchasing new platform weighing-machines in that
year.
33. The next statement shows the quantity of salt manu-
factured at Sambhar and the quantity sold in each year since
1871, when the lake was leased from the Jeypur and Jodh-
pur Durbars :—
