Of the 20,85,479 maunds issued from the (Warthganj)
Khewra Depét, 19,93,075 maunds were removed by railway
and 29,404 maunds by road. This depdt offers such facilities
for the despatch of salt by railway, that removals by road
are gradually decreasing. The Nurpur Depét, which is situate
ina gorge of the Salt Range at a distance from the railway,
supplies local needs only, and all salt’ purchased from it is
removed by road. The Warcha Depdt lies at the base of the
Salt Range at a distance of nine miles from the Gunjyal
station on the Sind-Sagar Railway. The whole of the salt
cleared from it during the year, 77,460 maunds, was removed
on pack-animals by road; the greater portion being conveyed
to the railway and to the river Jhelum for despatch by rail
and water to the areas of consumption. The Kalabégh Depét
is on the right bank of the Indus, the Mari Station of the
North-Western Railway being on the opposite bank. Out of
-the quantity of 1,22,996 maunds issued from it during the
year, 86,027 maunds were despatched by railway and
36,969 maunds by road and river. The river trafficis both
up and down the stream of the Indus. The opening of the
Mari-Attock Railway will, however, affect the river traffic
with the upper reaches of the Indus, and will tend to reduce
the price of salt in the country along the left bank traversed
by the line.
The issues during the past two years of cés-Indus and Distribution of salt over
Kalabégh rock salt to the areas in which itis consumed are — "#88 of consumption.
