SALT REVENUE DEPARTMENT FOR THE OFFICAL YEAR 1893-94,

Maroos, Bhats and Bishnois, who are commonly called Bunjarahs,
and who go no further a field than Marwar and Meywar. I do
not think that the Jat and Bamania Bunjarah trade of the past
year was in advance of the previous seasons, and that‘ the
increase shown under “ Bunjarah” trade is entirely due to the
greater activity of the Maroos and Bhats in supplying portions
of Meywar with Pachbadra salt, which suffered to some extent
from the scarcity of Sambhar salt.” :
“Another year’s experience of the Bunjarah trade con-
vinces me that the decline in their business is not due to their
not being able to obtain large-grained salt; for though that kind
of salt was once sought, now the smaller grained, but equally
pure, salt is readily purchased, as the rail-borne trade has
familiarized consumers with the equally good, though smaller,
grained kind. In fact during the past Bunjarah season the
Bunjarahs showed a decided preference for the small clean
salt from the Posali section of the tract.”

There is adebit balance on the year’s transactions of
Rs, 10,151-5-3,as owing to the great distance from which the salt
has to be transported from the pits to the railway station: and.
the high price that has to be paid for carriage inside the tract
no contractor can be got to do the work required for three pies

crease in any way the cost of Pachbadra salt to purchasers and
consumers. As it is, it has difficulties in the position of the
