80. Mr. A. B. Patterson, C. S., Commissioner of Salt
Revenue, was in charge of the Department throughout the
year.
81. Mr. R. J. Whitten has, as usual, rendered the most
valuable assistance in the administration of every branch of
the Department.
Messrs. Lyon, Assistant Commissioner, Sambhar Division, °
and Bolster, Assistant Commissioner, Punj4b Mines Division,
have managed their important charges satisfactorily. Mr.
Buckley also deserves credit for his management of Pach-
badra during a year when on account of the scarcity of Sambhar
salt a great strain was thrown on the source. The gratifying
financial results were to a great extent due to the tact shown by
him in his dealings with the salt manufacturers. Among Superin-
tendents, Messrs. Bryan, Holford, Money and Rai Bahadur
Nanak Chand deserve special mention. The two first men-
tioned were selected toact as Assistant Commissioners during
temporary vacancies. Their good work in the higher grade:
will be described in next year’s report. Mr. Money is in special
charge of the Mayo Mines, and has performed his important
duties to my satisfaction. Rai Bahadur Nanak Chand’s work
as Superintendent, Salt Manufacture, Sambhar, was most valu-
able during a very critical time.
