2 he soon acquired great celebrity through,
3 all the countries into which he travelled.
4 There are many extravagant accounts re-
5 garding the travels of Nanac. One author*,
6 who treats of the great reform which he
7 made in the worship of the true God,
8 which he found degraded by the idolatry
9 of the HindGs, and the ignorance of the
10 Muhammedans, relates his journey to all
11 the different Hindf places of pilgrimage,
12 and to Mecca, the holy temple of the Mu-
13 hammedans.
14 It would he tedious, and foreign to the
15 purpose of this sketch, to accompany Na-
16 nac in his travels, of which the above-men-
17 tioned author, as well as others, has given
18 the most circumstantial accounts. He was
19 accompanied (agreeable to them) by a ccle-
20 brated musician, of the name of Merdana,
21 and a person named Béla Sand’hii; and u
22 * Bhai Guru Vali, author of the Gnyana Ratn4vali,
23 a work writtea in the Sikh dialect of the Penjabi.
