2 . wards falls into the Haru. At about six miles
3 is the town ,of Burhan, within a kos of which
4 there are three or four other small villages.
5 -Nahid Khan, the late chief of Burhan, fought
6 many bloody battles with the Sikhs, He. was
7 at length killed, and the Sikhs introduced their
8 authority in the place. At Burhan the people
9 assume-a change. in their aspect and dresses.
10 They are almost all Mahomedans of the
11 Alizae tribe. Immediately after passing through
12 the town, I was surprised to find one of my
13 schoolfellows, named Ahmedgul, had been
14 waiting for me on the road. It was highly
15 gratifying to my feelings to meet a friend in ‘a
16 foreign land. He is a native of Islampore,
17 near Burhan, and had gone to Delhi for hig
18 education. As we had still some distance- to
19 travel, and the sun was getting hot, I was
20 obliged to leave my friend very unwillingly.
21 About the ninth mile we crossed the Haru,
22 which was running rapidly, and is here two
23 feet deep: the water is bluish, To the left of
24 the stream the ground is broken by the valley,
25 or the broad beds of the little Nalas which fall
