11 On the 9th of March we arrived at Akora;
12 distance, ten kos ; direction, north-westerly.
13 Immediately on leaving the encamping ground
14 near Khairabad, we passed through Gidargalli,
15 or Jackal’s Path, a narrow defile through a
16 low rocky range of hills, and nearly two
17 Miles in length.* It is not very difficult,

20 erected a few castles, which are garrisoned by troops sta-
21 tioned there for the purpose of securing the pass, as well
22 as for the protection of travellers. The scene was one of

24 guards, armed with long matchlocks, and perched on the
