3 pended. He next applied for assistance to
4 Misser Ganta, residing in the same street with
5 himself, to whom he also pawned some things.
6 The Misser, in consideration of his caste
7 (Brahmin), offered to support him with bread
8 and clothes if he liked to remain with him,
9 stating that his occupation would be to assist
10 him in performing his Brahminical offices.
11 The Misser himself was the Parohit or priest
12 to several families im the city of Lahore. It is
13 customary among the Hindus, before they take
14 their meals, to put some aside for their Parohits,
15 which they collectevery mornmg. Their sub-
16 sistence depends chiefly on the food thus col-
17 lected. Khoshal Singh was engaged. in that
18 ‘ duty, and continued so employed for six or
19 seven months, locking out at the same time for
20 Some. other employment. After a time Misser
21 ' Ganta recommended him to a perso& named
22 Lala Sajan Rae, who had him enlisted in the
23 battalion commanded by Dhokal Singh.
