3 dress being given to the complainants, and
4 some security being taken for the future good
5 and faithful conduct of his Barakzai feudatories
6 towards the Shah in the present expedition.
7 In the meantime letters were addressed to
8 all the Khaibar and other chiefs, intimating
9 the approach of the Shah Zada, and inviting
10 them to join him on his arrival at Peshawr.
11 A letter was also addressed to Ranjeet Singh,
12 informing him of the receipt of intelligence
13 that Dost Mahomed Khan was highly dis-
14 tracted on hearing the news of the armies of
15 the two states being on their way against him
16 in opposite directions, and that he was regret-
17 ting the opportunity he had lost, of securing
18 the friendship of the British Government
19 through Sir Alexander Burnes. In the same
20 letter his Highness was requested to furnish a
21 copy of the Tripartite Treaty to his officers at
22 ‘Peshawr, that they might be aware of its
23 terms, and co-operate with Sir Claude Wade
