2 voyage by Tatta to Hydarabad, and thence after a short stay
3 to Bbukar, making bis observations as the boats leisurely
4 proceeded. The Mission reached Tatta on the 15lh, and
5 Hydarabad on the 18th April, 1831, and the month of
6 May had closed before it left the Indus, and entered the
7 Chuuab. The river was then at its lowest, but no where
8 was there the slightest difficulty, or obstruction to the
9 navigation.
10 It may be necessary to state, that Sindh is divided into
11 three independent Governments: the first, and by far the
12 most considerable, is Hydurabad, ruled at this time by
13 Meer Moorad Ulee, last survivor of the four brothers,
14 who, in 1780, effected the revolution, which transferred
15 the dominion of the country to the present Talpoor Meers.
16 The second division is that of Khyrpoor, to the north of the
17 first, and lying on both sides of the river Indus. Its pre-
18 sent ruler is Meer Roostum Khan, the eldest son of
19 Meer Soohrab Khan recently deceased. The third
20 division is that of Meerpoor, lying towards Kuchh, and
21 ruled by Meer Ulee Moorad Khan. These sub-divi-
22 sions of the country, had their origin in a partition made
23 amongst the principal conspirators, by whose exertions
24 the Talpoorees obtained power.
25 Having passed through the Hydurabad territory.
26 Lieutenant Burnes was received with even increased
27 attention and kindness by the ruler of Khyrpoor, who
28 professed a strong desire to cultivate a more inti-
29 mate relation with the British Government, and made
30 Lieutenant Burnes the bearer of a communication
31 to this effect to the Governor General. By this
