3 Sachet Singh to march with one thousand ca-
4 yalry, and two thousand infantry, from Pesha-
5 war, and settle the aiSairs of Bannoo Tank (a
6 rebellioas district), and write an order also to
7 Fatty Singh Maun, to put himself under the
8 Rajah's orders, and not to disobey any of his
9 commands.
10 [The Faquir mentioned in one of the above
11 dialogues was one of the most remarkable men at
12 the court of Runjeet Singh. As he was, up to
13 the last accounts, living in the Punjaub, and
14 likely, if his life is preserved, to take an active
15 part in the future affairs of the country, the
16 following account of him, lately published in one
17 of the Calcutta papers, may not be out of place
18 in this work.
19 ^' Faquir Uzeez-ood-deen, is a native of a small
20 town, in the territory of the Raja of Pattiala. He
21 took service at a very early period with Runjeet
22 Singh, as his hukeem or physician, and as his pri-
23 vate secretary. He was in truth little more than
24 a barber-surgeon, and report says that he was
25 originally solely professor of the humbler of
26 these two professions. As early as 1809, he was
27 employed confidentially in carrying on negotia-
28 tions with Sir Charles Metcalfe. This, of coarse,
