4. In Kumaon the chief decreaso is under— Rs.
Heading J.—Sale of timber from depéts wie oes 58,560
Hoading II.—Sale of timber removed by purchasers... 26,150
Heading V1I.—Sale of minor forest produce... --- 8,900
Very much less timber was sold from the depét than was expected. The Oudh
and Rehilkhund Railway works between Moradabad and Ramnugger are to be com-
menced in November next ; they will most likely use some of the logs in the Ramnug-
ger depét, and the remainder will find a ready sale when the railway is opened.
In the early part of the working season the kham tehseel revenue (heads II.
and V1.) was very much thrown back by the heavy rains, which made the kutcha
roads in the Torai impassible for carts. This revenue always will fluctuate according
to the season, and it is quite impossible to estimate it correctly. For instance, during
the first three months of the ourrent year, Rs. 84,000 were collected under heads
II. and VI., being Rs. 19,000 more than the whole of tho revenue under those two
headings for the past year.
5. The Gurhwal Division shows a very satisfactory revenue, for the two kham
tehseol headings (II. and VI.) have an increase over the regular estimate, the for-
mer of Hs. 11,000, and the latter of Rs. 4,000. There is a decrease of Rs. 24,000 under
head I., owing to very few logs having been sold from the depdt. All the kurrees of the
previous season wero sold during the past year for Rs. 37,000, but the sale was not
effected till March, and the whole of the proceeds were not recovered in time to
bo credited in the past official year : Rs. 12,000 remained ovor, and had to be credited in
the accounts of 1872-73.
6. In Jounsar, the decrease is chiefly under heading I., and a small decroase
of Rs. 1,300 under II., owing to the regiment being absent from Chukrata for threo
months of the cold weather, and therefore a less amount of firewood being consumed
than was anticipated.
Under head I. the supply of timber to Chukrata yielded as much as was oxpected,
and the decreaso is due to the sleeper works. 7,486 10’10” x5” sleepers, and
13,727 of 6’ x8” x4”, wero delivered to the railway authorities during tho past year.
Rs 44,500 were credited to the Jounsar Division on account of these, whereas, according
to the last proposal of rates to be paid by tho State Railway, the amount should have
been Rs. 75,500, which would have brought up the revonue under head I. to Rs. 98,000.
There was also a sum of Rs. 6,000 due from officers for timber which was paid during
the current yoar, when they received the price of their houses from Governmont.
