ting up good solid temporary pillars sufficiently permanent to last two or three years.
5th.—Testing and traversing all boundaries in the Eastern Doon which requiréd
testing, and settling such disputes and alterations of boundary as gould be settled with-
out the aid of a District Civil Officer. Mr. Brereton then wrote a memorandum on
these boundaries, and made tracings of all disputed lines requiring further settlement,
which he handed over to the Deputy Conservator of the Doon.
In addition to this, some maps were prepared of parts of the Doon and of the
work dono in Jounsar during the summer.

_ JOUNSAR.
84. The progress made in the forest boundary work in this division during the
past year has beon fair, but all might have been finished in six weeks if the Settlement
and Forest Officers could have devoted that time exclusively to the work. This, however,
would interfere with the revenue settlement, so the one work must wait for the other.
The forests demarcated during the past year arc—(1) Chejall, (2) Halana, (38)
Lokarr, (4) Totwa, (5) Kinahni Pam, (6) Lokao, and (7) the Kalsic forests.
The following are partly demarcated: (1) Kinahni, (2) Deobun, (3) Thona, (4)
Bagi, and (5) Darmigad. Owing to illness, Mr. Cornwall was compelled to postpone
the scttlament of the following forests: (1) Koti Mangtar, (2) Mussuk, (3) Boodya, and
(4) Boondar.
The question of compensation for cultivated land taken up in Boodya is still before
the Commissioner, but will, it is hoped, be settled, and the ground made over to the
Forest Department, before October next, as during that month and November it
should all be sown with deodar.
GORUCKPORE.
35. Lines 35 feet broad have been cut and boundary pillars erected round the
following forests : (1) Sonahree, (2) Ramgurh, (3) Doodhai, and (4) West Lehra. In
this district there is such a demand for all kinds of timber that the line-cutting pays
well. During the past year it was all done by daily labour ; Rs. 1,882 were oxpended,
and the timber collected from the lines is worth Rs. 2,968. Part of it has been sold at
@ price corresponding to what the remainder is estimated at.

and graded for Jaden bullocks, ponies, &. The total cost was Rs. 502. Nearly 25,000
