18 285. The leases do not exhibit any improveinent
19 during the year, but this is duc to several causes. As re-
20 gards the income of Mulldn, Muzaffargarh, Jhang and

29 No increase in the leases.
30 986. In Lahore Mr. Sparling attributes the falling off to total absence
31 of rain in the Chinian tahsil, the principal grazing ground,
32 Falling off in Lahore and partly to the large grazing receipts in the great plan-
33 <a tations in this tahsil, which places attracted cattle that
34 would have otherwise gone to the rakhs, especially as the contractors there
35 lowered their rates. Also as before noted, miscellaneous grass reVenue, belong-
36 ing to this Department, was taken by the Military Authorities on the large
37 area made over to them.
38 287. In Gujrdnuwdla the falling off is attributed to the system of selling ;

42 unsold. For one or two years past, if 1 am not misinformed, the state of the sales
43 has been unsatisfactory, and large remissions had to be made; scarcity of rain
44 in the bar and gross trespass, which we had no authority to repress, also _contri-
45 buted to our ultimately realizing some Mts. 2,110 less than last yoar’s income.
46 288. In Gujrdt, the reduction is due to closing of rakhs for reproduction
47 | but also partly to the vexed question of the Pabbs rakh
