2 ALL NATIVE STATES IN INDIA.

4 2.-A0OTS OF THE GOVERNOR GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
5 [The general powere of the Coyncil of the Governor General to legislate for persons
6 beyond the limits of British India rest on the following Statutes, namely, 24 & 265 Vict.,
7 c. 67,8. 22; 28 Vict., c. 17, s. 1; and 32 & 33 Vict., c. 98,5. 1. Under them the Council
8 muy make Laws and Regulations for—
9 (a) servants of the Government in allied Native States (24 & 25 Vict., c. 67, s. 22);
10 (6) European-British subjects in allied Native States (28 Vict., c. 17,8, 1) ; and
11 (c) Native Indian subjects anywhere (32 & 33 Vict., c. 98, a. 1).
12 In addition to these general powers, the Governor General in Council is invested with
13 special power—
14 (a2) under the Statute 3 & 4 Will. IV, c. 85, 8. 73 (saved by 24 & 25 Vict.,c. 67,
15 gs, 22), to make Articles of War for Her Majesty’s Indian Army wheresoever
16 serving ; and
17 (6) under the Statute 47 & 48 Vict., c. 88, to make laws for all persons employed or
18 serving in or belonging to Her Majesty’s Indian Marine Service whose vessels
19 are within the limits of ‘‘ Indian Waters ”’ as defined in the Statute.]
