5 Orders as to jurisdiction of High Courts over European British subjects in Native

7 No. 178-.)., dated the 23rd September, 1874. —With reference to Notification No. 1203,(') of this
8 date, in the Home Department, the Governor General in Council is pleased, in the exercise of the
9 powers conferred by the 28th Vict., cap. 15, section 3, to make the following orders :—
10 Original and appellate criminal jurisdiction over European British subjects of Her Majesty,
11 being Christians, resident in the Native States, territories, and Chiefships below named, shall, un-
12 til the Governor General in Council otherwise orders, be exercised by the High Courts of Judicature
13 eatablished at Fort Willam, Madras, Bombay, and in the North-Western Provinces, respectively,

28 No. 2616-J., dated the 16th August, 1890.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6
29 of Act XXI of 1879, the Governor General in Council is pleased to direct that a Justice of the
30 Peace in any Native State, territory or Chiefship specified in Foreign Department Notification
31 No. 178-J., dated the 23rd September, 1874, shall commit for trial to the High Court which, under
32 that Notification, has original and appellate criminal jurisdiction in pursuance of the Statute 28
33 and 29 Vict., cap. 15, section 3, over European British subjects (being Christians) resident in such
34 State, territory or Chiefship.
35 2. Foreign Department Notification No. 179-J., dated the 23rd September, 1874, is hereby
36 cancelled.

40 No. 2220, dated the 16th October, 1873.—So far as regards Native States in alliance with Her
41 Majesty, except Native States situate within the local limits of the Presidencies of Fort St George and
42 HBombay,(®) the Governor General in Council, in exeroise of the powers conferred by sections 84 and62
43 of the indian Christian Marriage Act, 1872 (Act XV of 1872), hereby fixes the following acale of fees
44 to be charged under the aforesaid Act, and makes the following rules in regard to the disposal of
45 such fees, the supply of register-books, and the preparation and submission of returns of marriages

49 for the purposes of jurisdiction over European British subjocts.

52 (3) The Notitication does not apply to the State of Mysore either (see p 41 of the Sonthern India volume of
53 dheae Lintse). Itis not therefore, strictly speaking, a general Notification, but og it apphes to the greater number of the
54 Native Status in India, it seoma convenient to treat it as if it were general
