3 Supplementary Notes.
4 I.—Delegation of functions with respect to suits against the Nawab of Rampur
5 and the Raja of Tehri—By Notification No. 1369-I., dated the 29th March, 1889, the Local
6 Government of the North-Western Provinces and its Secretaries have been authorised, under
7 section 433, sub-section (4), of the Code of Civil Procedure, to exercise, in respect of the Nawab
8 of Rampur and the Réjé of Tehri, the functions assigned by sub-sections (1), (2) and (3) of
9 the said section to the Governor General in Council and a Secretary to the Government of
10 India, respectively. (See Gazette of’ India, 1889, Part I, page 187.)
11 II.—Railway Lands.—In 18€4 the Nawab of Rampur ceded in full sovereignty to the
12 British Government the (ands in his territory required for the Oudh and Ruhilkhand Railway,
13 (See Aitchison’s Treaties, Yol, 11, pages 3 and 25.)
14 III.—Garhwal Forest.— By an agreement entered into in October, 1865, the Rajé of
15 Garhwal leased all the forests in his territories to the British Government for a period of .
16 twenty years, with option to the British to extend the lease for two further similar periods, and
17 undertook to aid to the utmost of his power in the protection of the forests and in the punish.
18 ment of offenders infringing the forest rules and regulations Jaid down by the Conservator. He
19 also declared that he would regard the infringement of such rules as an offence and would
20 punish the offenders. (See Aitchison’s ‘I'reaties, Vol. II, No. XVII.)
21 IV.—Benares.—The powers of the Ktajé of Benares over his family domains are regulated
22 by Bengal Regulation VIL of 1828 as amended by Act X1V of 1881, and the rules made
23 thereunder, ‘The superintendence of these domains is vested in the Commissioner of the Benares
24 Division. .
25 V.— Kapurthala Estates in Oudh.—By Notification No. 2665-I., dated the 4th July
26 1889, the Local Government of the North-Western Provinces and Oudh and its Seeretaries have
27 been authorised, under section 433, sub-section (4), of the Code of Civil Procedure, to exercise,
28 in respect of the estates of tle Raja of Kapurthala(!) in Oudh, the functions assigned by
29 sub-sections (1), (2) and (8) of the said section to the Governor General in Council and a
30 Secretary to the Government of India, respectively, (See Gazette of India, 1889, Part I,
31 page 380.)
