4 APPENDIX.
5 Notifications relating to the admunsstration of Crvil and Criminal Justice and the
6 Police and to Municipal Government,
7 No. 1516-I., dated the 13th May, 1885.—Whereas the Rdjé of Keortthal has granted to the
8 British Government full juriediction within a tract of land adjoining the Municipality of Simla, and
9 wore particularly described in the schedule hereto annexed :—
10 In exorcise of such jurisdiction, and of the powers conferred by sections 4 and 6 of Act XXI of
11 1879 (the Foreign Jurisdiction and Extradition Act), and of all other powers enabling him in this
12 bebalf, the Governor General in Council is pleased to notify as follows :—
13 (1) Except as hereinafter provided, all laws, regulations, rules, bye-laws, and orders for the
14 time being in force in the Municipality of Simla, in the Simla District of the Panjab,
15 shall also be in force in the aforesaid tract of land.
16 (2) The Deputy Commissioner of the Simla District, the Commissioner of the Delhi Division,
17 the Financial Commissioner of the Panjab, and the Lieutenant-Governor of the Panjab
18 and its Dependencies for the time being, and the Chief Court of the Panjab, respectively,
19 shall exercise within the aforesaid tract of land the same executive powers as they may
20 respectively exercise within the British territories subject to their jurisdiction.
21 (3) All British Courts established within the Municipality of Simla shall, within the afore-
22 said tract of land, exercise the jurisdiction which they are, from time to time, respect-
23 ively empowered to exercise within the limits of the said Municipality,
24 (4) Within the aforesaid tract of land the administration of police shall be vested in the Dis-
25 trict Superintendent of Police of the Simla District, who shall exercise the same police
26 powers as may be exercised by him under any law, rule, regulation, bye-law or order for
27 the time being in force in the Simla Municipality, in subordination to the Deputy Com-
28 missioner of the Simla District, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police of the Umballa
29 Circle, the Inspector-General of Police in the Panjab, and the Lieutenant-Governor of
30 the Panjab and its Dependencies.
31 (5) Unless and until the Lieutenant-Governor of the Panjab so directs, the Panjab Municipal
32 Act (Act XITI of 1884) and the regulations, rules, bye-laws, or orders made under the
33 said Act shall not extend to the aforesaid tract of land.
34 The Lieutenant-Governor of the Panjab may, by notification in the official Gazette, extend,
35 with or without auch modifications as he thinks fit, the whole or any part of the said
36 Act, or of any regulations, rules, bye-laws, or orders made under the said Act to the
37 aforesaid tract.
38 (6) All officers serving under the Lieutenant-Governor of the Panjab, who exercise any
39 authority or jurisdiction within the limits of the said Municipality, shall, if required
40 by the Deputy Commissioner of the Simla District or the Commissioner of the Delhi
41 Division, also exercise such authority or jurisdiction within the aforesaid tract of land,
42 in subordination to the same control that regulates the exercise of that authority
43 or jurisdiction withio the limits of the said Municipality.

45 The tract of land comprising an area of 49 acres 1 pole 27 yarda, and delineated on the plan
46 annexed to the lease executed by the Raja of Keonthal on the 24th October, 1884.

49 of the panes by the Notification of the Government of Indin, Foreign Department, No. 1616-I.,
50 dated the 15th May, 18865, of extending with or without modifications the whole or any part of
51 the Panjab Municipal Act, 1884, or any regulations, rules, bye-laws, or orders made under that
52 Act, may be exercised from time to time as occasion requires.
53 (2) The Lieutenant-Governor may at any time revoke or vary a Notification issued in exercise
54 of the said power. :
