14289. Cholera—Of the total number of deaths registered under

15this head, 148 only, 80 occurred in the district of Gurgaon. There

16were only 3 places in this district where the disease assumed an

17epidemic character, viz., at Gurpatti, Firozpur and Mahowli. Deaths

18were registered under the head of cholera in 18 districts besides

19Gurgaon, but it is questionable whcther any of them were really due to

20cholera. In none of these districts did the disease evince a tendency.

21to spread, and the deaths attributed to it nowhere formed a regular

22succession of cases, but occurred at uncertain intervals, and where at all

23numerous, were spread over a considerable interval of time.

24290. Small-pox.—The total deaths registered under this head was

2525,699, or 1,971 more than in 1872. Of the total number, 24,649, or 96

26per cent., occurred in children under 10 years of age. The subject will

38lt thus appears that considerably more than half of the whole

39mortality of the Province is registered under the head of fevers. The
