4 Govind Singh dwelt in peace; but, at length, re-han.
5 solved to visit Alumgeer. He accordingly set out,
6 but on the road heard of the death of the emperor.
7 When Govind Singh reached the Dekhan, he
8 found that Buhadoor Shah, who bad made war on
9 his brother Aztrie Shah and conquered him, was
10 emperor.
11 When Buhadoor Shah was made acquainted
12 with all the sufferings of the Gooroo, and the
13 tyranny exercised towards him by the governors of
14 Lahore and Sirhind, lie bestowed presents on
15 Govind, consisting of rich tents, elephants, horses,
16 and the like, and appointed him to the command of
17 live thousand horsemen, and Govind thus remained
18 in the emperor’s service.
19 It is said, that one day a Path an brought a horse
20 for sale to Govind ; the price of the animal was
21 7,000 rupees, which the Gooroo promised to pay,
22 but delayed doing so from day to day. At length,
23 the Pathan seeing that smooth words had no effect,
24 began to use intemperate and abusive language to
25 Govind, and, drawing his sword, attacked the
26 latter; Govind, however, defended himself, and Kills a Pa¬
27 wresting the Path an’s sword out of lus hand, he W11 *
28 severed his head from his body.
29 Govind speedily repented of this act, and sending
30 for the son of the murdered Pathan, he bestowed
31 money and presents on him,
