5 Punjab fled at his approach in the utmost dismay.
6 He next crossed the Beas, and marched to the city
7 of Wittala. On hearing of the approach: of this
8 murderous incendiary, the inhabitants were divided
9 in opinion as to what measures were to be adopted j
10 one party proposed to abandon the place with
11 their families, while the other urged a strenuous
12 defence.
13 At this time Synd Muhommed Fuzil Gilauee,
14 escaping along with some fukeers, fled from Wittala
15 and reached the village of Sultanpore, in the Bist

19 lately arrived at Wittalai This man encouraged
20 the people to fight and prepare for a siege.

22 two miles from the city, and encamped near the
23 temple or musjid.
24 The inhabitants, by the advice of Sheikh Oolhud,
25 shut the gates and. prepared to defend the walls,
26 while the Sheikh himself went out to meet Bunda.
27 On reaching the road he made a bold stand, but,
28 was quickly overpowered and slain. The corpse of
29 this brave man was carried to Wuzeerabad, about
30 two miles from Kotilah, and there interred *. his des¬
31 cendants remain at that place to the present day.
32 Bunda broke open the gates and entered the
33 city, to which he set fire, beginning with the house
34 of Cazee Abdoollah. The wife of the latter had
35 hid ail the treasure in a terrace before the house.
