7 had only one attendant, named Ummur Doss, •who
8 on Ungut’s death became Gooroo. Ungut had two
9 sons, but both of them became men of the world.
10 At length after great suffering, Ungut fell a victim
11 to bis disease in the thirteenth year of the .reign of
12 Akhbar, and in the 97:6th year of the Hijera, cor¬
13 responding to a.d. 1552, and Bik. 1609, His
14 death took place on the 4 th of March at Kudoor,
15 where his tomb was erected. He reigned as Gooroo
16 for a period of twelve years, six months, and nine
17 days. The successor to Ungut was named Ummut
18 Doss; he was of the Chuttree caste, and sect of
19 Plmlla, and a native of GovindwaJ.
20 When Ungut took up his abode at Kudoor,
21 people visited lvim from every quarter, and among
22 the rest, Ummur Doss, who formed a great attach¬
23 ment for the Gooroo, and became his disciple and
24 follower. Every day he brought a vessel of water
25 for the purpose of washing and cooling his master’s
26 feet. One dark and stormy night, while thus em¬
27 ployed, he stumbled, fell, and hurt himself, breaking
28 at the same time the jar containing the water.
29 Some of the by-standevs enquired who he was,
30 others remarked —“ He is a fukeer without house or
31 home, and servant to Gooroo Ungut.” On the tidings
32 of thdftmsfortune reaching the latter, he hastened to
33 the spot, and laying his hands on Ummur Doss
34 embraced him, and begged him not to be distressed,
35 f< Lam your supporter,” added Ungut, “ and all I
36 possess is yours,” At the samp time lie appointed
37 him his successor.
