5 the subject, Chundooshah consented to the match.,
6 and the marriage-presents were stmt to the house
7 of Urjuu, One . of the bystanders related the
8 speech of Chundooshah to the Gooroo, and the;
9 comparison he had drawn between them. On
10 hearing this,Urjun was very angry, and said “That
11 Hindoo is a fool compared with me, and 1 will not
12 allow my son to marry his daughter.” When the
13 *“ n presents were brought, the Gooroo refused his
14 ^thednugii- consent to the proposed union, adding, “ltd is a.
15 Ghumiwoshah. nobleman, 1 am a fukeer; he must, be mad in
16 wishing his daughter to wed my son.”
17 Chundooshah entreated Urjun’s forgiveness for
18 the words he had used, and went himself fo visit:
19 the Gooroo, taking with him nearly a lakh of
20 rupees. On coming before IJrjun, Ghundooshah
21 joined his hands and .asked permission to address,
22 him; but the latter said it was useless, adding “Oh!
23 Chundooshah, my words are engraved on stone,
24 and cannot be washed out; 1 will never gainsay
25 them ; and were you to give the whole world as a
26 dowry with your daughter, she shall never wed my
27 son: this is fjxed and irrevocable.” On hearing
28 these words, /Chundooshah remained silent, but
29 from that time meditated revenge against Urjun.
30 “This man must have the blood of kings in his
31 veins to refuse my offer,” were Urjun’s emphatic
32 words on leaving the Gooroo.
